Frida Flowers Sweatshirt
About Frida and her Love for Flowers
Frida was often wearing flowers and using them in her paintings as a celebration of her national heritage and Mexican pride, their symbolism of fertility and fecundity was also pertinent to Kahlo who was unable to have children herself as a result of the accident in her teenage years. She wore quite a number of flowers—gardenias, dahlias, bougainvillea—to accent her flamboyant Tehuana hairdos and dresses. Other plants are depicted in a small exhibition of her paintings, drawings, and prints which the Botanical Garden has assembled.
